Black brittlestar

Postby Patrick K on Sat Feb 02, 2008 7:28 am

Hello all, I had a black brittlestar hitchhike on a piece of live rock which is in a 10 gal insolation tank. My concern is that there is not enough food in the tank to support him. So what would be a good way to feed him.

Brittle stars feed on plankton. There are plankton drops you can buy to support it.

I hope this helps!

You can also supplement the star's diet with bits of shrimp or other carnivorous food.

i also read somewhere online that you don't have to feed them and it will thrive. it is a scavenger though so in my opinion it defeats the purpose of having a scavenger in the tank if you are going to feed it. they will eventually get used to being fed and not scavenge for any uneaten foods on the bottom.

Thanks everyone for the responces. Because this tank is small, fishless and only has scavergers I'm thinking that there is not enough to support the star. Now I did set another live rock in the tank that has plenty of algae on it and this morning I noticed several piles of brown grainy stuff. I have only noticed one of these piles before and if it is poo then the only thing in the tank big enough would be the Brittle star. So maybe the new rock is just what he needed.
